First Steps in Music
"Music lessons with Katherine are the highlight of our week.
As a mum, I love this quality time I get to spend with my children, making music and hearing them discover the sheer joy of making music for themselves.
As a music teacher, I appreciate how cleverly crafted the lessons are with her seamless transitions, explorations in pitch and form, beautifully and appropriately pitched and paced for little voices and feet; and the beginning of their musical education.
I have referred every mum who has asked me "when is a good time to start music lessons?"" Penny
"The First Steps in Music classes provide a rich foundation for children and their parents/grandparents/carers to develop skills and understanding of music. Katherine is a highly skilled teacher, who brings together both music and early childhood qualifications to provide engaging classes where extraordinary music education occurs. Children who participate in these programs are exposed to incredible opportunities to deveop an appreciation of the different elements of music. I commend Katherine on providing these unique classes, where children are immersed in the highest quality music education and encouraged to develop their music capabilities."

What is "First Steps in Music"?
First Steps in Music is a series of group music classes intended for babies to five year old children. The music classes use folk and traditional songs/ rhymes and classical music to help children grow to be tuneful, beautiful and artful. The music series has been written by John Feierabend PhD who is a leading expert in early childhood music education.
What happens in these classes?
Birth to 3 years: In these classes, children will be bounced, wiggled and tickled by their parents/carers. Children will be encouraged to tap, clap and explore different instruments. And children, with the help of their helper, will participate in simple circle games and movement to music activities. Each class ends with a beautiful lullaby to soothe and relax the children.
Three-five years: In these classes, children will explore pitch with fun vocal warm-ups, sing simple songs, make up their own songs and listen to expressive song tales. Throughout the class, children will have many opportunities to explore and play percussion instruments and to practise keeping the beat with tapping, clapping and movement activities.
