A little bit about me

I have a distinct memory from Kindergarten. I was standing on a wooden fort with my friends and we were talking about what we wanted to be when we grew up.

All my friends said that they wanted to be doctors and nurses.  I said that I wanted to play music and work with kids.  And that's exactly what I've ended up doing. I play, I sing, I compose and I have lots of fun working with young children. What a great job!

Work

I have completed a Bachelor of Music (Piano performance) at the University of Qld.  I studied piano under Pamela Page and Bevan Crabtree and  I majored in Kodaly musicianship with Dr Edward Bolkavac and Dr James Cuskelly.

I have also completed  a Post Graduate Diploma of Education (Early Childhood) with distinction.

I have enjoyed attending, and presenting, at a number of Kodaly conferences and choral/conducting workshops.

Since attending university, I have taught piano and flute at various locations, including Fairholme college,  the Mitchell Conservatorium, and at private studios in Dalby, Forbes and Brisbane.

I have conducted and accompanied many school choirs.

I have also accompanied instrumental and vocal soloists at eisteddfods, competitions and performances.

Over the last ten years I have run early childhood music classes "First Steps in Music" in The Gap, Brisbane and Forbes. These classes are based on John Feierabend's Kodaly program

"First Steps in Music".

In 2012, unexpected knee surgery and complications left me bed bound for many months.  It was during this time, that I rediscovered my love of composing. While I was lying in bed, I created many quirky characters, interesting stories and beautiful melodic lines which have formed the basis of many of my children's choral pieces. It has been a wonderful experience, and a real honour to have had my music discovered and performed by various choirs.  It is always a thrill to hear my pieces come to life!
